FASTSIGNS Crawley has helped to transform a ‘state-of-the-art’ STEM Centre in London Gatwick which is aimed at inspiring school children to pursue careers within science, technology, and engineering.

The Crawley-based business is celebrating the project in line with British Science Week which takes place between March 8th and 17th each year. According to research by the Industrial Strategy Council in 2019, experts predicted that by 2030 the UK could have up to seven million jobs requiring STEM skills.

The STEM Centre is situated at one of the UK’s busiest airports - London Gatwick Airport and is part of a wider scheme to create educational portals for young people looking at careers in STEM.

FASTSIGNS Crawley was brought on board to bring the centre to life with signage that would inspire children and teenagers into a career in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

The brief was to create inviting, educational, and stimulating signage for a series of rooms including an Archimedes room, each of which is designed to teach young people about the operations of the airport and the technology behind the scenes.

FASTSIGNS created a colour-changing lighting solution on the main feature wall as well as printed window frosting, wall graphics, lightboxes, and graphic-mounted signs which created a multi-dimensional finish.

Melanie Martinez, director at FASTSIGNS Crawley, comments: “We relish projects that give us the opportunity to combine our knowledge of practical and informative signage, with fun and educational content – and our partnership with London Gatwick enabled us to deliver just that.

“No matter what industry or environment you are in, signage can play an important role in educating us and this mindset was at the very heart of this project.  To capture the attention of today’s distracted audiences, signage needs to be both eye-catching and engaging, as much as it needs to be informative, fuelling their minds while getting them excited about the possibilities of STEM.”

Darren Hollis, senior engineering manager at London Gatwick, adds: “It was fantastic to work with FASTSIGNS Crawley on the visuals for our brand-new STEM centre.

“The space is a bespoke, hands-on experience which aims to engage and teach school children across the region about STEM and aviation, so it is vital the space is visually engaging for everyone who visits.”
