Color Ink completed the creative project in just three weeks

US print company Color Ink got into the spirit of this year’s winter Olympic Games by completing an innovative project for Century 21 Real Estate.

As an official sponsor of the Games, which took place in Sochi, Russia earlier this year, Century 21 was keen to promote itself to consumers.

The real estate’s advertising agency approached Color Ink to produce a paperboard replica of a US winter Olympic bobsled, complete with Century 21 branding.

We had only three weeks from receipt of the files to deliver final product

To complete the project, Color Ink successfully overcame a number of challenges, such as ensuring the bobsled had minimal parts to allow for easy transportation and making it durable so it would not suffer damage during shipping.

Todd Meissner, president of Color Ink, comments: “We had only three weeks from receipt of the files to deliver final product.

“We created a structural design of the bobsled that was compact for shipping, easy to assemble and lightweight.”

Having started off with a small-scale 12” blank prototype, Meissner worked alongside the agency to develop the full-size model—which was eventually created using lightweight 40mm white styrene wrapped around a 1” Ultraboard curvature frame and printed on an Inca Onset Q40i.

The fact that we were able to overcome all of the challenges and created a finished product that looked truly authentic at such a low cost per unit was amazing—and a big help to our client

Meissner enthuses: “The fact that we were able to overcome all of the challenges and created a finished product that looked truly authentic at such a low cost per unit was amazing—and a big help to our client.”

Such a success was the project that Color Ink was given a special award for creativity during Inca Digital’s 2014 IDEAs awards ceremony earlier this year.

In addition, the firm is currently in discussion with the US bobsled skeleton team to create similar applications for its sponsors.
