(L to R) Neil Fingleton and Adam Catterall prepare to see if they have won on the giant scratchcard

Marketing services provider Communisis has worked with Europrint Promotions to create a giant version of a new National Lottery scratchcard.

Standing at 16m tall and 6m wide, its has been produced to promote the new scratchcard that offers a top prize of £4m—the biggest ever pay-out offered on a National Lottery scratchcard. The jumbo version, which is 500 times bigger than the reveal thing, was housed at the White Rose Shopping Centre in Leeds.

Joining the scratchcard was star of National Lottery TV adverts, Adam Catterall, and Neil Fingleton who, standing at 7ft 7", is Europe’s tallest man. The pair were lifted by cherry picker and scratched off the card using a special giant coin to reveal the symbols underneath.

The original designs of the 92 x 107mm scratchcard were supplied to Communisis, magnified 500 percent and printed in several sections on a large-format device at 1400dpi on 200gsm semi-gloss paper. The scratch-off panel sheets were printed litho with latex applied over the top and then over-printed.

“This was certainly one of the more unusual briefs to receive, and the uniqueness of the project presented some suitably grand challenges. We’ve invested a lot in new production technology over the past few years, so it’s great to put it through its paces with fun projects for a great brand like the National Lottery,” says managing director at Communisis Leeds, Gurdev Singh.

The project shows the versatile market for wide-format print work which is available to those businesses that have invested in the technology.
