And so it’s fitting that Northern Flags have hit the headlines with their England waistcoat with its Cross of St George design. After an item appeared on the BBC Look North programme highlighting the item of menswear with an interview with Iain Clasper-Cotte from the Leeds company explaining how waistcoat had suddenly become the must-have fashion accessory for all beer drinking football supporters of a certain age.
He says: ““Following the feature on BBC Look North, people literally knocked on our doors the following morning to order this new flag design. The Avinci print engine has produced a quality product for us and if we get the result we all want tonight, long may we continue to get this run on sales.”

And for sign-makers moving into soft signage and textile printing the Agfa press used to create the waistcoat is very important. Northern Flags, which has a 33-year history in supplying flags, has been inundated with enquiries for the St George’s Cross flags since the World Cup started and that was the reason the Beeb contacted them to run a story on the phenomenon. And no doubt the firm was particularly pleased that six of the English squad hail from Yorkshire. For pub quiz fans they are: Fabian Delph (Bradford); John Stones (Barnsley); Danny Rose (Doncaster); Kyle Walker (Sheffield); Jamie Vardy (Sheffield), and Harry Maguire (Sheffield).
