Nutmeg runs on love

Adele MacKinnon founded her business on a Roland CAMM-1 GR-640 in 1999, using gift money from her wedding to purchase it

It is not often that love is the foundation for a business, but that was how it worked out for Adele MacKinnon, who used her wedding gift money to buy a Roland CAMM-1 GR-640 vinyl cutter in 1999.

Fast-forward through a break for the business that lasted until 2010, while MacKinnon’s family grew up, and the Roland was dug out of the loft and Nutmeg Studio was reborn.

With notonthhighstreet.com used as a springboard for the new business it has grown exponentially and today specialises in wall art stickers for a wide variety of businesses, including a brand stocked by John Lewis.

Having recently attended the Roland DG Academy Intermediate Digital Print course at the company’s Clevedon headquarters, MacKinnon reports she has now been further inspired: “I am now working on a range of off-the-shelf retail window graphics and will be investing in new Roland DG technology as I continue to expand Nutmeg Studio’s product offerings.”

Canary Wharf shines bright

Management at Canary Wharf have once again attempted to keep the mood in London positive in the wake of Christmas by running its annual Winter Lights festival for the fourth consecutive year and brightening up the capital.

This year’s incarnation will again draw upon state-of-the-art light technology to deliver spectacular artworks, installations, and experiences.

Highlights this year include never-before-seen pieces and several UK firsts, such as new commission ‘Dazzling Dodecahedron’, a 3D installation from UK artist Amberlights that people can enter and enjoy the total rainbow spectrum of colour.

Also included this year is ‘Halo’, which, created by Dutch artist Venividimultiplex, sees a giant halo suspended above the fountain in Cabot Square for staff at the site and members of the London public to enjoy.

Laser cutting, marking, and engraving technology specialist Trotec Laser has given the industry an insight into its plans for this year’s edition of Trophex.

Taking place at NEC in Birmingham from January 14th to 15th, the event focuses on the trophy, awards, and engraving industries, with Trotec able to support those working across these markets.

Trotec also says the Speed Marker 300 provides high-speed laser marking of metals and plastics within a production environment.

In addition, Trotec will showcase its engraving materials range, which recently expanded include cast acrylics, solid, and veneered woods.

Innotech strategy offsets Brexit impact
Brexit remains a concern for many companies across the pint industry

Russell Alexander, sales manager at Innotech Digital, has said that the company’s ongoing growth strategy has helped offset any immediate effects of Brexit.

Alexander said while there have been minor price rises due to an increase in raw materials, a strategy set out in 2015 means Innotech continues to perform well.

While other industries predicted 2017 would be a patchy and unsure year, we have not yet experienced this. Perhaps this is because we had already looked at our strategy and had set the foundations for growth for the coming years

He says: “While other industries predicted 2017 would be a patchy and unsure year, we have not yet experienced this. Perhaps this is because we had already looked at our strategy and had set the foundations for growth for the coming years.”
