Small sign firms benefit from British Sign Awards

The British Sign Awards takes place in November in Leicester, and entries for each category close on September 15th. One award that will be presented this year, and is sponsored by SignLink, focuses on the smaller sign-makers in the industry.

The Small Sign Business of the Year Award, which is supported by Signlink, aims to reward the smaller firms, as some felt they would not be able to succeed against larger companies.

David Catanach, director of the BSGA, comments: “We created the award because we were advised that many smaller businesses were not entering because they felt they had little chance of winning when pitted against the bigger sign companies.

“Small businesses can, of course, enter for any award and some have been very successful in previous years. However, in this category they compete only against peer businesses that employ from one to five people.

Winning the Small Sign Business title can have a huge impact on an ambitious business and we would encourage any small sign-maker that is genuinely proud of its work to submit an entry

“Winning the Small Sign Business title can have a huge impact on an ambitious business and we would encourage any small sign-maker that is genuinely proud of its work to submit an entry.”

Traditional skills will also be celebrated thanks to The Craftsman Award, which is sponsored by etching specialists Trade Etching Direct.

Catanach finishes: “Sign-making is increasingly a technology driven industry but traditional craft skills, such as sign writing, gilding, etching, engraving and carving, still have a major role to play. The Craftsman Award, sponsored by etching specialists Trade Etching Direct, is designed to focus on these skills and promote their continued use.”
