Craig Brown of Signs Express said that signs were considered vital by most businesses

The country’s largest sign company commissioned the independent research company to survey of more than 1,000 business decision makers to discover the role that signage plays in their marketing plans.

It was a thumbs up for the sign industry with three quarters of business decision makers believing that signs, graphics and displays play an important part in their marketing activity while 98% think that good quality and attractive signs and graphics help to give a good impression of a business.

The research indicated that websites are most important for those operating nationally or interna-tionally, whilst exterior signs and vehicle graphics were cited as more valuable by businesses with a local and/or regional reach

When asked to select the best three marketing tools for a business being marketed from scratch, from a list of 12 options, respondents said:

(1)   a website (77%)
(2)   an exterior sign (47%)
(3)   printed brochures or leaflets (43%)

Craig Brown of Signs Express says: “There is no doubt that company websites are the shop window of businesses today. But our research proves that exterior signs, which have been around for hun-dreds of years, are still a vital part of the marketing mix and highly regarded as an essential invest-ment – firmly in the top three choices for effectively marketing a business.”

The research indicated that websites are most important for those operating nationally or interna-tionally, whilst exterior signs and vehicle graphics were cited as more valuable by businesses with a local and/or regional reach. It seems that signs still have plenty of life in them yet for marketing a business something that all sign-makers will be glad to know.
