Inca celebrates industry’s print talents

Inkjet technology pioneer Inca Digital has announced the winners of its 2014 Inca Digital Excellence Awards (IDEAS) at a special ceremony during FESPA Digital

US firm Color Ink was handed the Special Award for Creativity for its replica bobsled designed for Century 21 Realty, sponsors of the US bobsled team, which was displayed during the 2014 winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia

The awards celebrate the creative and remarkable products and effects that can be achieved using Inca’s printing technology.

Heather Kendle, director marketing and product management at Inca, comments: “This is the third Inca Digital Excellence Awards and once again we are delighted by the number of entries that demonstrate the considerable potential for digital print.

“The sheer range of applications shows the ingenuity and creativity of our customers using Inca printers, ranging from a Columbia Turbo to the latest Onset.”

Entries in each category were judged by a specialist panel comprising Vince Cahill, president of VCE Solutions, John Charnock, PR-INT director, consultant Barney Cox, and Marco Boer, senior analyst and consultant to the digital printing industry.

The panel based their judgment on originality, complexity of the substrate, ability to overcome design and concept challenges, success of producing something special, benefits to the client, and overall visual and structural impression.

UK firm Kolorcraft was handed the 3D POS award for its New Look Spring 2013 Window Scheme, which was created using a combination of 10mm and 18mm honeycomb board, display board, boxboard and polypropylene, and printed on an Inca Onset S40.

Electroprint of Morocco won the Display Graphics honour for a large exhibition booth built in the style of a small medieval fortified city with typical Moroccan architecture. The project was printed on 16mm Re-board on an Inca Columbia Turbo.

Irish company Smurfit Kappa Display walked away with the Interactive Display gong for its Absolut Butik display unit that featured an interactive element with phone/tablet application.

The unit was created using 16mm Re-board printed on an Inca Onset S40i, which was then constructed with built-in LED lighting strips.

Artwork Digital of Brazil won the Decoration and Unique Designs award for school costumes and props storage boxes created using 16mm Re-board printed on an Inca Onset S20.

The application was created from lightweight 40mm White Styrene and 1” Ultraboard printed on an Inca Onset Q40i.
