The banner was held aloft by United fans during their home game with Everton

On the way back from a game against Red Star Belgrade on November 6th  1958, the tragedy saw the United side’s plane crash on its third take-off attempt on a slush-covered runway at Munich airport.

Eleven United players and staff, as well as a number of journalists and other passengers, lost their lives in the disaster.

To mark the anniversary and remember those that lost their lives, fans group, Stretford End flags, commissioned XG Group to produce a 30m wide by 20m high banner, which was held aloft by fans at United’s home ground of Old Trafford at their game against Everton.

It was a fantastic feeling to see one of our banners on display at such an iconic stadium and to be seen by 75,000 people there as well as millions watching the game on TV worldwide

The banner featured the final line-up of the side from the Red Star Belgrade match, along with the words ‘We’ll never die’.

Its cost was funded by Stretford End Flags, as well as former United captain, Gary Neville—who also chose the final design.

The piece was dye sublimation printed at 3m wide onto 115gsm FR knitted polyester, with these drops subsequently sewn together to form the finished banner.

“It was a fantastic feeling to see one of our banners on display at such an iconic stadium and to be seen by 75,000 people there as well as millions watching the game on TV worldwide,” comments XG Group managing director, Warren Verwey.

He adds: “It was also very rewarding to see so many of the Manchester United players tweet their support for it.”
