The new scheme is targeted at the wide-format print sector

Developed by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) and Prismm Environmental, the Display & POS 2 Recycling Scheme aims to promote good recycling practice within the wide-format print community and support resellers and end-users.

Steps in the scheme include the preparation of an initial report upon acceptance into the programme that outlines media usage and waste output; an annual review detailing the changes achieved; and monthly reporting of recycling, recovery and landfill volumes recorded by Prismm.

Information will feed into an annual report for each member site which will be delivered to the BPIF Visual Display and POS Steering Group, enabling ongoing sector analysis.

John Draycott, marketing manager at ArtSystems, comments: “This is a very exciting time for the sector as it has the opportunity to lead in what will become the new normal across all industries.

“As we move towards an Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model of waste management, we need to have a fundamental rethink regarding print design and output - and in particular being mindful of the print technologies and substrates we use.

“By doing so, we will remove many of the challenges related to the safe disposal and recycling of print in the sign and display sector and embrace a more environmentally friendly way of operating.”
