The Planet Mark was established in 2012 to recognise and encourage sustainability across organisations and has since developed into an internationally recognised sustainability certification, supported by the Eden Project and EU funding.

The Planet Mark Start! Programme was launched off the back of this, specifically for businesses in the Bristol City, South Gloucestershire, and Bath and North East Somerset areas.

Having attended a workshop, Signs Express Bath owner Mark Collins formed a sustainability plan which will see the business actively working to reduce any negative impact on the local and global environment.

The branch has agreed to work on three main areas of change which involve improved recycling of its non-commercial plastic and cardboard waste, sourcing a new vinyl that has reduced plastic content, and adding a biodegradable product to its range.

The new biodegradable board is a more environmentally friendly alternative to soft foam boards, foam PVC and plastic composites and can be used for hoardings, short term promotional posters and other advertising materials.

The firm has also sourced a new vehicle wrap vinyl, made using a non-PBV polymer and a phthalate-free film which allows customers a new eco-friendly alternative to traditional PVC vinyl.

''We are excited to be adding more eco-friendly materials to our range,” Collins says. “We can now give our customers more choice over the type of materials they wish to use and offer a more sustainable option. All these small changes can help make a real impact on our local community and environment.''
