Signage films and media supplier Hexis has moved to address a growing trend in the industry towards environmentally-friendly materials by launching a new range of PVC-free films for digital printing and signage applications.

Several of the newly launched Hexis films can be used to complete jobs such as vehicle wrapping

Designed to reduce the impact on the environment compared to PVC films, the new products contain no PVC, chlorine, solvents, plasticisers or heavy metals in their chemical formulation. The range comprises Hexis A5000 Smartac Evolution cuttable coloured films for sign-making, and Hexis HX500WG2 and HXL300WG2 for digital printing applications.

Scott Wilkins, managing director of Hexis UK, explains the films’ application possibilities: “These new ranges can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications, and offer excellent durability. They are easy to install, easy to remove, and have no negative impact on the environment.”

The new Hexis A5000 Smartac Evolution is a 60µm high gloss cast polyurethane film that the company says is well suited to outdoor signage applications, due to its ability to be applied on flat, concave or convex surfaces. The film, which also features Hexis-formulated high quality clear solvent acrylic adhesive, is available in 15 popular sign-making colours including metallic.

Hexis X500WG2 is a generation 50µm cast polyurethane high gloss film that the firm says offers a ‘greener’ option for vehicle wrapping jobs. The film can be used with solvent, eco-solvent, latex, and UV-curable inks, with the incorporated HEX’Press grey solvent adhesive technology aiding quicker application onto vehicles and helps eliminate air bubbles.

Hexis HXL300WG2, which has also been developed for digital print applications, is a very high gloss 100µm cast latex film for flat and slightly curved surface, with the manufacturer suggesting it to be used for projects such as billboards, hoardings, posters, and wall and vehicle graphics. Much like its sister film, it is compatible with eco-solvent, latex, and UV-curable inks, and also benefits from the HEX’Press grey solvent adhesive technology.

Wilkins adds: “Thanks to its continuous investment in R&D, Hexis has been able to put its commitment towards the environment into practice within its eco-friendly product development plans. These very competitively-priced new ranges really will help our customers to ‘go green with Hexis’.”

All three of the new PVC-free ranges are available with immediate effect and can be purchased in a range of widths and roll sizes. Hexis A5000 Smartac Evolution is available in widths of 610 and 1230mm, and in multiples of 5m up to 30m rolls.

HX500WG2 can be purchased in 1370mm x 45m and 1520mm x 45m rolls, with pricing starting from £9.34 per square metre, while Hexis HXL300WG2 can be purchased in 1370mm x 40m rolls, with pricing starting from £8.64 per square metre.
