Sign-makers update skills while industry grows

Despite their experience, some sign-makers like to update their repertoire of skills, and the services that they can offer to their customers. The Antalis Digital Academy travelled to Belfast in early June to offer workshops to sign-makers to do just that.

The Kingspan Stadium, which is normally home to rugby legends, Ulster, held the event which attracted old and new customers to different workshops.

The activities included seminars such as the introduction to the large-format market, sign-maker’s workshop, and introduction to vehicle wrapping and vinyl application.

Sign-maker Paul Hughes took the sessions, offering 16 years worth of knowledge and experience.

Antalis digital support manager, Giles Bristow, says: “The roadshow comes on the back of the success of the Digital Academy’s visit to Dublin last year, which was extremely well-received.

“We were therefore delighted to bring our expert workshops to Belfast to support our customers in developing and diversifying their businesses.

The workshops were a great experience, full of useful hints, tips and guidance from an extremely knowledgeable tutor

“We’re very aware that not all of our customers can visit the Digital Academy, which is why we are bringing it on the road to try and reach as many as possible.

“Based on the popularity of this roadshow, we shall certainly be looking to make a return visit in the future.”

The original Antalis Digital Academy, which is based at the firm’s head office in Leicestershire, offers similar workshops, including colour management and vehicle wrapping.

The academy has become very popular with experienced sign-makers, who are looking to advance with the changing market. The workshops are also appealing to newcomers.

David Bell from GPS, was present at the sessions in Belfast, and says: “The workshops were a great experience, full of useful hints, tips and guidance from an extremely knowledgeable tutor.”
