Core Exhibitions has boosted its production power with the purchase of a Mimaki UJV55-320 UV LED roll-to-roll printer provided by kit supplier, CMYUK.

Founded in 2019, Core Exhibitions specialises in portable and modular display systems that deliver flexibility and a lighter environmental footprint. Core Exhibitions is the central business within a wider group that includes Core Signs & Graphics, Core Event Structures, and Innov8 Displays.

It is also the official UK representative for Space Display, an international brand supplying roll-up banners, pop-ups, and modular display hardware.

The installation of the UJV55-320 marks the Oxfordshire-based company’s first move into superwide-format textile printing, completing an ambition to offer a self-sufficient production service for exhibitions and event environments.

The UJV55-320 joins an existing Mimaki flatbed, a CNC digital cutter, and other roll-to-roll printers at Core Exhibitions’ production hub.

With the new Mimaki UJV55-320, Core hopes to open new opportunities in superwide-textile display graphics including lightboxes, tension frames, and single piece wallcoverings. The company has also recently invested in an automated sewing machine, to support this burgeoning textile growth.

Steve Clements, director of Core Exhibitions, says: “The Mimaki just ticked every box. It does exactly what we need, beautifully and reliably, and it was at the right price point. It’s easy to use, the quality’s great, and it’s built for busy production.”

Like many in the live events industry, Core faced upheaval during the pandemic. In response, the company regrouped, secured fresh investment, and were able to return to a secure income.

Clements continues: “Coming out of Covid, we were a completely different animal. Our investor helped us stabilise and invest in the right technology. Since then, we’ve built a brilliant team, upgraded our kit, and we’re in the strongest position we’ve ever been.”

Core saw the UJV55-320 at one of CMYUK’s regular open days. The press offers 3.2m width, dual-roll capability, 1200dpi resolution, and an inline LED lightbox for on-the-fly backlit print inspection.

CMYUK is an authorised reseller of Mimaki products, which it sells in partnership with and on behalf of Hybrid Services, the exclusive distributor for Mimaki in the UK and Ireland.

Speaking about the purchase of the UJV55-320, Clement concludes: “This investment has completed the circle for us. For the first time, we can produce absolutely everything in-house.

“It’s the independence we’ve always dreamed of and it’s taking us, and our clients, to the next level.”
