Printer represents UK in worldwide Canon project
The international print project from Océ Technologies and Canon invited one wide-format company from America, Canada, Japan and Australia, with The Bigger Printing Company representing the UK.

The challenge aimed to demonstrate the colour accuracy of the Colorado 1640
The project, titled the World of Wallcovering, invited five different large format printing companies to produce one section of artwork using the Océ Colorado 1640, with the aim of all five sections lining up perfectly to create one large wall display as well as demonstrating consistent colour across all five prints.
The challenge, planned ahead of the SGIA Expo 2018, also included Group Imaging from the US, Printec from Japan, Lamcom Technologies from Canada and Signex from Australia. The Cheltenham-based wide-format specialist was approached by Canon to represent the UK in the challenge, following its success with the Colorado 1640 since it purchased the machine back in November 2017.

David Bowen, operations manager at Bigger Printing comments: “We were thrilled to be asked to be part of this international project back in August, and it’s been so exciting it’s been difficult to keep quiet about really. Having embraced the UVgel technology provided by the Océ Colorado 1640, we haven’t looked back. The Colorado provides us with so many benefits including consistent colour on blisteringly quick prints, so to be asked to be the UK representation on this project was an incredibly easy decision.
“This project proves just how special this machine is; the fact that five different companies, in five different countries, using different RIP software, using different set-ups, working in different colour spaces, can all produce identical prints is unheard of.”
The five prints were checked and installed next to each other before the unveiling at SGIA Expo in Las Vegas (October 18th – 20th) where the piece was displayed to demonstrate the capabilities of its colour matching as well as near-perfect geometric alignment.
