The wonder of Microsculpture

Following the launch of the firm’s first LED UV printer, the Jetrix LX5, at FESPA Digital earlier this year, Inktec now has an innovative and awe-inspiring way to showcase what the model can really do, as it demonstrates the wonder of Microsculpture at the Museum of Natural History in Oxford.

Levon Biss’ ‘Microsculpture’ exhibition showcases highly-magnified insect photography, brought to life in stunning detail with the help of Inktec’s Jetrix LX5

The exhibition is the painstaking work of photographer Levon Biss, and ‘Microsculpture’ refers to his study of insect specimens, presented as highly-magnified portraits presented as large-format prints, the largest of which were created on the Jetrix LX5 at Genesis Imaging. The result is a breathtaking array of insects as works of art, capturing every intricacy and minute detail.

Every picture in the collection is created from approximately 8,000 photographs in about 30 sections. Each section was lit with different strobe lighting to emphasise the microsculpture of each individual part of the insect.

When I saw the fine level of detail in these images when visiting Genesis Imaging, I was blown away by the intricacies revealed of these insects

Inktec’s Ben Woodruff says: “When I saw the fine level of detail in these images when visiting Genesis Imaging, I was blown away by the intricacies revealed of these insects. The lighting just adds to the definition and it is fantastic to see some of these being produced on a Jetrix printer for this exhibition.”

With the promise of an energy saving up to 35 percent in comparison to a mercury lamp printer, it is perhaps apt that the Jetrix LX5 should play such a key role in Biss’ celebration of our natural environment.

Indeed, the first firm in the UK to snap up a Jetrix LX5, Bex Design, are quick to praise its eco-friendly capabilities. Managing director Ian Board comments: “The biggest appeal for us was having a printer that will deliver everything that our current Jetrix gives us, and more – environmentally friendly with instant drying capabilities, which means we can print on more diverse materials than before and extend our customer offering even further.”
