Signcraft: 'Recession has hit the industry hard'

Signcraft says the recession has ‘hit hard’ and that adapting has been key to the property specialist's growth throughout the difficult trading conditions

“In the past, the property industry has sailed through recessions pretty much unharmed,” says managing director, Bob Colwell.

He continues: “Not this one. This recession has hit the industry hard and we have had to adapt to meet the challenge. We have developed a fast and responsive service based on quality and accuracy to ensure we deliver a great value and essential service.”

As part of that adaptation the firm has purchased an additional Seiko II Colorpainter from Colourgen reseller, City and West Solutions—claiming its ability to produce high quality graphics was the deciding factor.

The new purchase is the latest version of the W64s 1.6m-wide mild solvent inkjet printer, of which the firm already had two installed alongside a range of UV flatbed machines.

Due to the recession, the firm found itself moving into shopping centre fronts, fascias, and other more diverse applications. Colwell explains that Signcraft simply required expanded capacity: “We got to a point where we needed more than the old 64S machines could offer and carried out a very detailed review of what was available in the market.

“We looked at several machines at Sign and Digital UK and had a number of demos, but I always felt that the new Seiko would be in line with the quality, performance, and reliability that the older machines had when they came out. So far I have been proven correct.”
