Martyn Kiddey, managing director of Pinetree Enterprises, says: “I became an apprenticeship ambassador four years ago for the Skills Funding Agency and I have always been very keen to find ways of cost-effectively training people.

"The national apprenticeship scheme is a fantastic way of training people, both young and existing employees. It is a way that small companies can access funding for training; it is a no brainer.”

The company’s apprentices covered areas such as digital marketing, sales, and business administration. Kiddey adds: “We have learnt along the way as well. We run an e-commerce business and we have managed to learn a lot of the new techniques of e-commerce by learning with the trainee.”

It is fantastic. It is a reward for putting the effort in and means we can be involved even more closely with the apprenticeship scheme, so it is a real win-win situation for us

On the award, Kiddey says: “It is fantastic. It is a reward for putting the effort in and means we can be involved even more closely with the apprenticeship scheme, so it is a real win-win situation for us.”

Damion Hinds MP, minister of state for employment, commented at the awards ceremony that the award was an example of what he wants to see more of.

Kiddey concludes: “We will use the award to help promote the apprenticeship scheme which I still very firmly believe in.”
