Innova – tive ways to inspire students

Innova Solutions has kick-started a campaign to help young people into work, offering their advice and experience to students through a mentoring scheme that is run by the Education Business Partnership (NW).

Entering the world of work is more competitive than ever, and instilling confidence and skills in students is extremely important. Innova believes that, although some teenagers are waylaid during their education, with the correct support and guidance they can achieve their goals. 

The EBPNW work with seven schools across East Lancashire, and run an Employer Led Mentoring Scheme. This is backed by the Careers and Enterprise Company, who receive support for the government.

Innova, who are based in Colne, Lancashire, got involved with the project and offered support from two of their most prominent figures. Glenn Dunleavey, managing director, and Linda Barrowclough, operations director, visited two of the local high schools to take part in the scheme. Fisher More Catholic Humanities College and Park High School, in which Dunleavey and Barrowclough were former students of, were home to the talks that aimed to aspire, discuss, boost confidence and share ideas.

I can only hope that the students have taken valuable knowledge away from the mentor sessions that will enable them to be successful in their chosen career

Barrowclough comments: “As both Glenn and myself attended the local schools, we were both keen to with EBPNW on this project. This was an opportunity for us to give something back to the community and the local schools, as well as possibly making a difference to these young people, whilst ensuring that they have a plan for when they leave education.”

She continues: “Apart from ‘going back in time’ to our old schools and classrooms, we have worked with these young ‘employees of the future’, helping ad guiding them on their usable skill sets, setting objectives and the importance of first impressions when going for an interview.

“It has been a thoroughly enjoyable experience and both Glenn and I can only hope that the students have taken valuable knowledge away from the mentor sessions that will enable them to be successful in their chosen career.”
