Brunel proves its conviction

Proving that it has a very strong conviction to ensure the sign-making industry has a new generation of talent coming through, five young apprentices at Brunel Engraving have now finished a two-year Performing Manufacturing Operations engineering apprenticeship.

Carried out at the company’s Clevedon headquarters, the training course was designed in conjunction with City of Bristol College and each participant was mentored by a training advisor and assessor from the college.

The apprentices were awarded with their Intermediate Level 2 (F504) qualification certificates, which is equivalent to five GCSE passes at grades A to C.

All of the apprentices now work full time at Brunel Engraving and will complete more advanced training in engraving techniques in the future.

“Engraving is a highly skilled profession and our engravers are trained to the highest standards in the UK using the very latest computer controlled engraving machines, including laser and glass, as well as sublimation, chemical etching, anodic print and wide format digital print operations,” says Philip Wright, production director at Brunel Engraving, who worked closely with the apprentices.

Wright continues: “We are keen to nurture and develop young talent and believe strongly that education and industry should work together to offer young people opportunities to train and develop their skills.

“The advantage of this type of apprenticeship, which is both technical and vocational, is that the trainees get to learn on the job whilst also benefitting from the support of their college mentor and assessor.

"It’s a great way for young people to realise their potential and we’re now delighted to welcome our five apprentices as full time employees.”
