Brazilian brain: Gabriela Parish is the new marketing supremo for Europe at Spandex

Based-in Bristol, Gabriela has been with Spandex for six years as marketing manager for the UK and Spain. Spandex says she retains her UK regional marketing responsibilities in addition to her new focus on strategic group marketing. She joined Spandex in 2007, following a stint at Digi International.

Gabriela holds a masters degree in marketing from the University of Leicester. Originally from Brazil, she is fluent in Portuguese, Spanish, and English, and has a good command of French.

We asked Gabriela a few questions about her life, Spandex and who will win the World Cup.

Q: What makes Gabi tick—what gets you out of bed in the morning?

A: Having objectives and ideals for my personal life, my career, and for the world. Each day represents an opportunity to move towards them.

Q: Tell me a tiny bit about your life outside of work—hobbies, family, etc.

A: I have two children and this invariably takes up a large chunk of my time, but I try to find time to go the gym a few times a week. I see the benefits for my health.

Q: What is Spandex's USP?

A: The people, the product range, and the service levels, but we couldn't have the last two without the former so in the end it comes down to the people that work on bringing in innovative products and solutions, and taking good care of our customers.

Today I think that many marketing professionals have to be knowledgeable about a wide range of marketing disciplines and able to work at a strategic level, as well as take care of the details

Q: What is your vision for Spandex?

A: We want to be the first company all printers and sign-makers contact when they need products. We will achieve this by continuing to provide innovative and cost-effective products and solutions with ever higher service levels. We want them to continue to think of Spandex as a partner that will help them take their business forward. That's why our service levels are so important.

Q: What makes a good marketing manager in any business?

A: Today I think that many marketing professionals have to be knowledgeable about a wide range of marketing disciplines and able to work at a strategic level, as well as take care of the details. Being committed, flexible and reliable are useful skills in any profession.

Q: What's the next big thing in the wide-format industry?

A: I think vehicle wrapping will continue to grow due to demand and the amazing possibilities that new vinyl technology, colours, and finishes open up. We have over 170 colours and finishes, from transparent films through to all the colours you can think of, even chrome!

Another area that we will focus on is architectural films—window films like dusted and frosted, printable wall papers and textiles, and 3M's Dinoc finishing films. They enhance the look of a new project but can also help 'renew' existing premises at a fraction of the cost of a full refurbishment programme. Dinoc's range of over 500 finishes offer an amazing choice for all kinds of projects.

Q: Will Brazil win the football world cup next year?

A: Of course!

Q: How do you spend Christmas?

A: With close family. This year it will be in Brazil.
