OKI reaches out to new audience

As part of its targeted drive towards the large-format sector since the acquisition of Seiko in 2015, OKI Europe is demonstrating its capabilities to the varied visitors of FESPA 2017.

The firm is aiming to convey how it has applied ‘its pioneering expertise and insight’ to large-format printing since the acquisition, exhibiting the new addition to its Pro Series white toner range, as well as the recently-launched ColorPainter Premium E-64s.

Lee Webster, general manager, product marketing, at OKI, specifically highlights the Pro8432 W2 A3 white toner printer, which was launched today at the show: “We chose to unveil this new addition to the Pro Series range here at FESPA in order to demonstrate the real diversification opportunities it offers wide-format printers.

“We knew their would be a shared audience from across the wide-format and graphic arts sectors, and the first days of the show have confirmed that to be the case. Everyone has been really positive: we’ve had interest from both Europe and the rest of the world, talking to visitors from Palestine to Australia. FESPA has proven to be the ideal exhibition to bring the products in front of new audiences.”

Commenting on why wide-format users should invest in OKI’s technology, Webster indicates the EFI rip that can drive both the wide-format and LED devices: “This ensures that users have a great way of producing very cheap and easy content proofs before committing to a long print run. The Pro Series is providing creative and graphic arts businesses with the extra agility needed to meet evolving market demands such as shorter print runs, personalised content and fast proofs – without compromising on quality.”

And you do not need to take his word for it: OKI is demonstrating many of the new capabilities of its technology on its stand at the show. As Webster explains, the press on the stand will be providing examples of OKI’s transfer media printing, which the firm claims can enable smaller print shops to offer unique designs on a range of different media.

Indeed, it is its focus on how print businesses can expand their offering that OKI is particularly keen to get across at this year’s FESPA. All the solutions on the stand are there to demonstrate how they can help print-service-providers create new revenue streams. Like the other models in the ColorPainter range, the recently-launched ColorPainter Premium E-64s is designed to provide premium performance with high levels of precision on many different media types.

In tangent with this, visitors to the stand can also expect to see demonstrations with OKI’s high-pigment ECO solvent SX ink, which the company claims is making sign-writing and graphics printing more versatile, enabling printing for indoor and outdoor applications from one device.

The main thing we want to show customers at FESPA is how to create applications with higher added-value, higher mark-up, which therefore offer better return-on-investment from the printer

Frank Jaenschke, senior product manager at OKI Europe, says that this versatility offered by the technology will be one of the key attractions to the firm’s stand this year. He comments: “The main thing we want to show customers at FESPA is how to create applications with higher added-value, higher mark-up, which therefore offer better return-on-investment from the printer.

“High-quality indoor and outdoor applications enable print-service-providers to make money quickly back and get a quick return-on-investment. Sign-makers aren’t making much money off normal vinyl jobs right now; margins are down, so we need good new indoor applications, such as interior decoration, which can sell at a higher price. Users will then be able to invest in new printers – so we want to show them what the possibilities are.”

Indoor applications on show will include signage and graphics for retail locations, hotels and exhibitions, along with poster, photopaper, and canvas printing. Outdoor applications will cover lightbox graphics, roll-ups, retail signage and window graphics, as well as vinyl wrapping and event signage.

Finally, as one further attempt to draw visitors to its stand and encourage them to invest, OKI will be offering an ink promotion on its booth. If visitors choose to purchase select printers, they will receive 18 to 24 litres of ink for free, which is the equivalent of between 2200 to 3000 sq/m of print.
