Tough competition spurs investment

SMP Group has seen a boost to production with a new Inca Onset X3 14-channel UV flatbed printer

The news of the installation and its impact on SMP forms part of a wider trend that is gaining traction in the large-format graphics market, seeing medium to large-sized businesses have to invest in super-fast industrialised inkjet equipment in order to compete on both price and job turnaround times.

The point-of-sale (POS) material producer installed the machine two months ago and new business director for the company, Darren Jarvis, claims it has fitted ‘seamlessly’ into their production portfolio.

We invested in the machine on the basis of the quality, flexibility and speed it could bring to the business and now that it’s in and running, we can see what it’s real potential is

“We invested in the machine on the basis of the quality, flexibility and speed it could bring to the business and now that it’s in and running, we can see what it’s real potential is in terms of the exciting new applications it can bring to the business and our customers,” Jarvis explains.

Launched in October last year as part of the Onset X Series and sold exclusively by Fujifim, the Onset X3 wide-format flatbed UV printer can print at 900sq m/h and features three CMYK ink channels.

SMP Group works with retailers across Europe, which director of digital print, Mark Turner, says requires the ‘highest quality’ and ‘accurate print results’.

Turner adds: “The investment in the Inca Onset X3 was part of our ongoing commitment to our customers to increase productivity, enhance quality and ultimately provide them with the greatest value in our relationship with them.

"The Onset X3 is now playing a key role in helping us to deliver this.”
