Avery Dennison’s Global MDO (machine direction oriented) technology is designed to be highly conformable for applications such as product labelling

Avery Dennison and UPM Raflatac are both giants in the world of digitally printable vinyl manufacture and have now gone head to head after the former filed a lawsuit over its Global MDO pressure-sensitive film technology.

Avery asserts that Raflatac’s Reflex MDO is a copy of its product.

“Avery Dennison respects the intellectual property rights of other companies and individuals and expects others to do the same,” says Jeroen Diderich, vice president, global marketing, Avery Dennison Materials Group.

He adds: “We attempted to negotiate a license agreement with UPM Raflatac, in the hope of avoiding litigation while allowing their continued supply of this product. Unfortunately, that effort was unsuccessful.”
