YPS thrives in UK print pressure cooker

The print industry supply market, and specifically its large-format inkjet sector, remains one of the most heavily competitive spheres of business in the UK. But within the pressure cooker there are a number of businesses using the energy generated by competition to expand.

( L to R) Lauren Randall, Wayne Jobling, ‘Charlie’ Charlton, and Paul Shorton are all taking on new roles at YPS

Your Print Specialists (YPS) is one such firm, specialising in both commercial print consumables and inkjet technology. Its latest strategic move has been to recruit new technical talent in the form of Philip ‘Charlie’ Charlton to the role of service engineer, and Lauren Randall will now serve as technical and software support.  A rejig of existing staff is also in motion; Paul Shorton has been promoted to service manager and purchasing and distribution’s Wayne Jobling has taken on a service support position.

Charlton, who moves to YPS following a 26-year career with Toshiba, comments: “I’ll mainly be responsible for installing new equipment, trouble-shooting technical issues for customers and answering queries they have about their machines.

“We are a relatively small team of experts with a diverse and flexible approach, which can only benefit our customers. All aspects of our work are enjoyable as no two days are ever the same.”

I think it’s important to build relationships with people and not just see people as sales

The other new addition, Lauren Randall, comes to the business with first-hand experience of its high standard of service, having been a YPS customer earlier in her career. She explains: “The YPS team were our go-to people if we had any print issues and were always very friendly, always happy to pass on advice.

“When the opportunity arose to join the roster I knew, going in, that YPS is a company that takes pride in its work and cares about its customers. I think it’s important to build relationships with people and not just see people as sales.”

The restructured team forms a key part of the firm’s Three Routes to Profitability campaign, as it aims to increase its presence in the industrial products and textile markets especially. Operations manager Georgia Brown explains: “Print technology is constantly evolving and we are seeing more businesses buy into areas they haven’t explored before, such as dye-sublimation or direct-to-textile.

“As a result we’re anticipating more queries from our customers as they incorporate this different machinery and develop exciting new applications – and YPS will be there to help and support them as they innovate.”
