Kongcrete director Mark Auty is buoyant about the future of the Q-Set product range

According to one of the signage industry’s fastest growing supply companies, ‘installing fence and sign posts will never be the same again’.

This bold statement has been made by Wakefield-based Kongcrete—which breaking with the tradition of baseless marketing boasts—is seeing the rapid sales growth of a product which really does live up to the title ‘revolutionary’.

Packaged in three kit sizes, Kongcrete Q-Set 200 has essentially been designed to overcome all of the drawbacks of traditional concrete and postcrete when used as a foundation material for applications such as display, road and construction signs. Its big brother Q-Set 250 is designed with larger industrial applications in mind and can handle more substantial signage application requirements.

The company’s marketing director Mark Auty gave an exclusive interview to SignLink and explained why he believes Kongcrete will revolutionise this area of the industry: “The main advantage is not having to carry big heavy bags of concrete. The second is that it does not need any water, and so there is no need to transport huge amounts of it to site or try to organise a supply when doing installations. The third is that it penetrates the soil a lot better than concrete and withstands greater extremes of temperature.

“The final advantage over traditional concrete or postmix is that it all comes together in a single kit, so there is no need for large mixing equipment or lots of man power. You just mix the two parts together in the kit, pour it into the hole where it will expand to fill the void, setting to 50 percent of full strength in three minutes and 100 percent within two hours.”

Auty’s expertise in the signage industry comes from extensive prior experience as a tapes and adhesives supplier, selling his business and starting Kongcrete six months ago.

“The most important feedback that came back to us from Sign and Digital UK was that everybody— especially the installers—were saying, ‘what a god send’, as having to carry 20kg bags was the bane of their life,” continues Auty, adding: “We understand it is a little more initially expensive. But the benefits you get, as well as the time, hassle and labour costs saved, balanced this out, meaning it really is a no brainer.”

Auty says the success of his Wakefield firm can also be attributed to its UK-wide next day delivery service. This, tied in with Q-Set’s attributes, has meant that after six months Kongcrete is already expanding its sales team and there are plans afoot for warehousing and logistics expansion.
