How technology has developed

Take me straight to the magazine.

Who remembers the questionable transfers that you ironed onto a t-shirt to reveal your favourite design? Though of course incredibly exciting at the time, it was not long until that beloved floral print started to crack or peel, and the continuous wear and tear on the t-shirt eventually took its toll on the design. What you were left with was often a blur of the image that used to be and sometimes an unpleasant adhesive shadow left behind.

You will be happy to hear that we no longer have to resort to iron on transfers for t-shirt printing as direct-to-garment printing has taken significant leaps forward since those days. For example, the Sure Color SC-F2000 direct-to-garment printer from Epson delivers magnificently high-quality prints at a resolution up to 1,400 x 1,400dpi. It also offers fast printing speeds, claiming to print a single t-shirt in just 27 seconds.

You may be concerned with the environmental pressures of this, however Epson's UltraChrome DG ink has been awarded Eco Passport certification by Oeko-Tex. This is an international safety standard in the textile industry, which means it is certified to be safe for adults and children, including babies.

Epson is just one brand making waves in this sector as you will see in the Direct-to-garment Printing feature on page 59, as we also see solutions from Kornit Digital and Resolute DTG. Read more to find out if there is real revenue to be made and why you should consider diversifying into this creative sector.
