In a range of online videos, managing director of Trade Signs UK, Ben Gregory, has revealed plans for a unique display which will be debuted at The Print Show next week – involving Star Wars figurines.

Gregory set a challenge at the start of September to find all 99 of the original Kenner Star Wars figures and build a display out of them using his own sign materials, ready for the Trade Signs UK stand at The Print Show.

The display, which has been dubbed ‘Sign Wars’, has been teased in video updates on LinkedIn in recent weeks. The videos reveal Gregory’s dedication to the concept, with often tense and sometimes pricey searches needed to acquire the rare collectables.

Discussing the stand build concept, Gregory says: “This is our first time as an exhibitor at The Print Show and we wanted to do something to really grab attention. People come to an exhibition looking for products, but as an exhibitor we also need to give them a good reason to stop and find out what we do.

“A wall of childhood toys mounted on the very boards and vinyls we want to showcase does both jobs at once.”

Trade Signs will also be launching six limited edition figures of its own at the show including Darth Vinyl, Princess Layup, Fluke Signwriter, ChewBanner, R2-CNC, and C3-PVC.

Using the company's in-house 3D printing service capability and bespoke packaging, Trade Signs will display these new characters alongside the official figurines.

The Trade Signs UK stand will utilise Xanita board from Antalis printed on HP Latex machines, layering Drytac vinyls and with cutting completed using a Vivid VeloBlade.

Trade Signs will offer a range of sample packs during the show with support from Drytac, Antalis, and Premier. Signgeer has also provided miniature squeegee keyrings for the company to give away.

Speaking about the Sign Wars campaign, Gregory says: “I admit it – I am a Star Wars nerd and I am loving collecting these figurines.

“However, there is also an important message that we want to get across at the show. We’re highlighting the products, techniques, superior quality, and creativity that our customers ask of us every day. It’s been a great way to show off to the trade who we are and what we do, with the grand finale on our stand from the 29th.”

Yoda, jedi master for The Jedi Order, adds: “Have them all does he? On Stand P584 you will find. Register for The Print Show you must.”
