Soyang Hardware, a part of Soyang Europe, has installed a Mimaki CJV150-130 at The Reprographics Centre which is part of the Estates Division of the University of Cambridge.

The vinyl printer and cutter was needed due to the increased demand for wide-format print work which will in part strengthen the centre’s offering for more varied products.

The centre is located in the historic grounds of Cambridge University and produces print and photocopies for the central University Divisions and Departments as well as for colleges, students, societies, private customers, and small businesses.

The Mimaki printer and cutter is replacing an old aqueous printer and is allowing the centre to produce external signage and promotional material using non-water-soluble inks.

Nik Palmer, reprographics manager for the Reprographics Centre, says the machine has already made a big impact since March when it was needed for the busy University exam season.

“It fits in perfectly alongside our previous machine,” says Palmer, adding: “Its small footprint, along with the print speed and quality, made it stand out most of all the machines that we looked at. Since the machine was installed in March, we haven’t stopped using it. Demand for wide-format printing is ever increasing and we took delivery of the new Mimaki at just the right time.”

Palmer and the team looked at several options ahead of investing in the CJV150-130 and settled on the decision in February 2024.

Palmer says: “We can now offer more robust prints and print on a greater variety of media. Going forward, we are looking to increase the range of applications that we can produce, including external banners.”
