Durst Group has appointed Wolfgang Knotz as its new chief technology officer, as part of its goal to transform from a machine manufacturer to a technology-driven solutions provider.

In his new role, Knotz will be responsible for the company’s group-wide technology agenda, with focuses including integrating software, data, and automation offerings with new business models.

Knotz will also aim to further strengthen Durst Group’s capabilities and provide customers worldwide with more comprehensive, integrated solutions.

Knotz, who first joined the company in 2013, has held various leadership positions within the Durst Group, most recently serving as managing director of Durst Austria.

Knotz has also acted as head of development for the group since 2016, where he played a key role in shaping core production and technology structures, as well as the advancement and optimisation of digital printing systems.

The appointment as chief technology officer comes against the backdrop of Durst Group’s recent strategic realignment, with initiatives such as the new Kyveris AI platform designed to accelerate its shift toward data-driven, connected production solutions.

Explaining the process of hiring Knotz for the new role, Christoph Gamper, chief executive officer and co-owner of the Durst Group, says: “As part of an intensive selection process involving more than 600 applicants, we conducted a global search for the ideal candidate for this key position.

“In the end, it became clear that the right person for the role was already within our organisation. Wolfgang combines technological expertise, strategic vision, and deep knowledge of our company like few others.”

Knotz adds: “In my conversations with Christoph, it quickly became clear that we share the same vision: Durst must consistently evolve from a machine manufacturer into a holistic technology and solutions provider.”
