The company has confirmed that everyone is safe and that it is currently assessing the situation and working with the relevant authorities to understand how the fire started.
Reports state that the blaze partially destroyed part of a building roof with a spokesperson for the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service stating that five pumping appliances were in attendance along with specialist vehicles.
Residents were warned to keep doors and windows closed and to avoid the area which has been cordoned off by Northumbia Police.
