Signage company, FASTSIGNS Sheffield, has partnered with indoor sports venue, Play Padel, to deliver a new signage package for its first Sheffield venue.

For the project, FASTSIGNS Sheffield created a suite of internal and external signage solutions to help the padel brand make a bold statement at its new venue, which is reportedly Sheffield’s first dedicated indoor padel venue.

Padel is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash, typically played in doubles on a smaller, enclosed court. It is reportedly one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, which has seen exponential worldwide growth in popularity over the last few years.

According to figures released from the Lawn Tennis Association, at the end of 2024 just over 400,000 people in Great Britain had played padel at least once in the preceding 12 months, up from 129,000 at the end of 2023 and only 15,000 in 2019.

The new Play Padel venue, located on Abbeydale Road South, offers four indoor courts, comprising three doubles and one singles court. The first of its kind in Sheffield, the venue has been designed to make a strong first impression, with eye-catching roadside signage which aims to catch the attention of passing traffic.

Inside, a six-metre ceiling-suspended lightbox creates a central focal point, with the aim of encouraging player interaction and photo opportunities. Bespoke wayfinding signage and court numbers are also included, designed to make navigation easy for both players and spectators.

The courts feature full-colour etched vinyl logos on the glass panels, adding a sleek, professional touch. In the reception area, visitors are welcomed by a custom-crafted logo display sign, along with a LED, faux-neon installation which also incorporates real padel balls.

Martin Slater, director at FASTSIGNS Sheffield, says: “With padel being one of the UK’s fastest-growing sports, standing out in a busy, competitive market is essential.

“This project was about more than just signage, it was about bringing Play Padel's vision to life with bold, functional design that grabs attention and elevates the space. Every element, from striking brand features to clear navigation, was created to energise the venue while helping players and visitors move through it with ease.”

Speaking about the collaboration with Play Padel, Slater continues: “We’re proud to have partnered with a local venue that’s not only growing as a business but also expanding access to sport in our wider community. Helping bring that vision to life through creative, purposeful signage has been a real privilege.”

Alex Fleming, founder and managing director at Play Padel Sheffield, adds: “We wanted to create something fresh, bold and instantly recognisable from the moment people arrive, and signage plays a huge role in that first impression.

“The team at FASTSIGNS Sheffield understood our vision perfectly and turned it into a reality, identifying exactly what both locals and padel players really valued in a space like this. The finished look really helps us stand out and adds to the energy of the whole place, and the sport itself.”
