Who's done what: Wasps, chops, tickets and IPTV

As Wasps scrum down against Exeter Chiefs for the new rugby union season at the Ricoh Stadium near Coventry, above them will be one of the largest ever screens installed at a sports ground.

ADI is the outfit behind the project as the rugby club seeks to enhance the matchday experience for the spectators. The high-resolution screen is 188sq m in size with a 10mm pixel itch technology and is larger than the one at Twickenham. Replays of action on the pitch will feature during a game along with scores and information. In addition to the new screen, an LED scoreboard and clock will be installed on the West Stand mid-tier and there is further investment in new LED screens at the Ricoh Arena entrance and inside the main atrium.

Stuart Cain, commercial director for Wasps and the Ricoh Arena, says: “We’ve responded to fans requesting better quality screens by installing one of the largest state-of-the-art pieces of technology in UK sport. This will massively improve people’s experience when watching Wasps.  We’ve also invested in the main atrium which will improve the experience for the 700,000 people visiting conferences and exhibitions at the Ricoh Arena every year.”

Meanwhile in London new signage now adorns the New Road Hotel in Whitechapel thanks to work by Fastsigns from Islington. The 80-bed hotel housed in a former textile factory also features a new Marco Pierre White restaurant, Mr. White’s English Chophouse which needed its own unique signage. Fastsigns designed the projection signs, window graphics and stitching, internal vinyls, illuminated window menus, a banner, directional signage, frosting and acrylic wall graphics using a 15m cherry picker to complete the installation.

Fastsigns Islington’s owner, Shahzad Ahmad, says: “This has been a really fantastic project to work on. New Road Hotel is a really unique space steeped in history so it’s great to have played a part in breathing new life into the venue. Projects of this scale often pose many difficulties, not least when you take into the account the challenges involved with using cherry pickers at such a height. However, we’re pleased to be able to have completed the project in such a short space of time, from first contact to installation took just two weeks and we are thrilled to have helped transform the space into a truly fantastic, individual hotel.”

A furniture store chain in China has a new ticketing machine system powered by Bright Sign’s Series 3 technology which connects the machines to a display and audio system. Based in Cambridge the digital signage company created a system where customers request a ticket from a 10” AVNU PF10H1B-CT all-in-one, multi-touch screen, which is attached to a ticket printer. The screen has an embedded Bright Sign Built-In DSM (digital signage module), which replays the store’s marketing messages when the screens are not being used to issue tickets.

The ticket request is routed to the customer service support queue. When the next agent is available, the customer’s number is displayed on all of the 46 digital signage screens located around the store – each one driven by a Bright Sign HD223 player. At the same time a voice announcement is played over the audio channel. The normal digital signage content is interrupted during the announcement and resumes afterwards.
