Print Show launch site for world firsts as Fuji

From the very smallest niche suppliers of consumables through to multi-national manufacturer leviathans, The Print Show is set to be one hell of a shindig for the UK print industry. And with its most recent exhibitor to sign on the dotted line none other than Fujifilm Graphic Systems, it seems that the decibel level of this print party just went up a notch.

A key impact of The Print Show 2015 was the huge stimulus it gave to UK print’s economic cycle. “We are pleased to be exhibiting at The Print Show this year as we realise a lot of smaller companies didn’t go to Drupa, the timing of The Print Show is perfect,” says Keith Dalton, UK director of Fujifilm Graphic Systems.

Under the theme of ‘Go Creative, Be Creative’, Fujifilm’s main focus at The Print Show will be to demonstrate the capabilities of its technology portfolio, starting with the Jet Press 720S, through the use of an array of real-world applications and print samples. It will also place a special focus on demonstrating its burgeoning portfolio of wide-format inkjet systems, and will bring its Acuity LED 1600 II and Acuity LED 3200S to the show.

The signing of another major print technology manufacturer to its rank of exhibitors will add further fuel to the jet engine that has driven The Print Show’s momentum over the last twelve months.

Indeed, another major digital print technology developer in the form of Intec has chosen The Print Show as the site for its worldwide launch of its Color Flare system, a flat sheet digital print finisher, and the Color Cut contour cutter.

“I really don’t want to say too much more, as it would give the game away, but suffice to say they will be exciting new products that anyone who has a colour digital printer will want to come and see,” says Intec’s managing director Ian Melville.

He adds: “We are also showing our CS5600XF, which is our ColorS plash envelope solution driven by the Fiery XF for Intec RIP. Demonstrations of this will be going on throughout the show onto coloured envelopes with UV clear and white toner, as well as the usual business related envelopes for variable data applications and direct mail.”

Pushing the boat well and truly out, Intec will also demonstrate a Color Splash CS5000—coupled with its banner extension feeding tray for media up to 1.3m long—in addition to its LP215 UV White label printer, LCF215 contour label cutter, and LSMR215 label slitting and matrix removal unit.

It is this depth and breadth of technology focussed on the UK commercial printer that make The Print Show a unique event. This is evidenced further by presence of another multi-national star in the form of Spandex, which has revealed its huge stand will showcase new wide-format print technology from Epson, Roland DG, HP, Mutoh, and Swiss Q Print in addition to a number of finishing solutions. It will also be highlighting the revenue generating opportunities to be had by diversifying into the vehicle graphic printing and wrapping sector by running demonstrations every day using media from its own Image Perfect range in addition to media from 3M, Avery Dennison, Orafol, and Arlon.

Moving on over to the end of the production run, another key facet of The Print Show is that it has a truly comprehensive array of print finishing technology manufacturers and suppliers. Indeed, Ashgate Automation will demonstrate its flagship Fastbind Pureva XT perfect binder, Fastbind Elite A4 perfect binder with built-in PGO roughening unit, Fastbind Casematic XT, and the Fastbind Foto Mount for lay-flat albums.

Another icon of the UK print industry, and one of its few home-grown manufacturers, is Watkiss Automation. The firm has also chosen The Print Show as the site for the UK launch of two new products in the form of the Power Square 160 and the Mamo SQ 320.

The Watkiss Power Square 160 booklet making system is aimed at mid-volume digital printers

The Power Square 160 booklet making system is aimed at mid-volume digital printers looking for high quality booklet production. It is designed around a modular open-architecture system that is flexible and versatile that can include two suction-fed sheet feeders and inline, nearline or offline configurations.  Optional accessories for full bleed trimming and book stacking increase productivity and efficiency and it accommodates a wide range of sheet sizes and materials, including A4 landscape format and heavy cover stocks.

The second new booklet maker on show is the Mamo SQ 320, which is an entry-level hand-feed booklet maker.  It will staple, fold and form a square spine on booklets up to 30 sheets for a variety of applications, including A4 landscape books. It also features digital control for automatic set-up and the option of 4 staple heads, including loop stitches.

Watkiss will also be showing a broad selection from their portfolio of print finishing equipment including booklet makers, perfect binders, laminators and guillotines.

Commenting on Watkiss’s decision to exhibit at The Print Show, Attew’s conclusion is perhaps indicative of why this event has hit such a sweet spot with the UK print industry: “Last year’s event provided an excellent platform for engaging with existing and potential customers; and we concluded a lot of new business. We expect this year to be equally successful.

"We are a British company, manufacturing here in the UK; and whilst we are a major exporter, the UK print industry is very important to us.  So we welcome the chance to see so many UK printers under one roof.  We firmly believe that exhibitions are ‘a must’ – you can’t beat a hands-on demonstration and the opportunity to compare products from a range of different suppliers.”
