Wide-format press manufacturer, swissQprint, has officially released an enhancement package for its Kudu wide-format flatbed printer, which it will be rolling out to its existing Kudu customers for free.

The upgrade package, which includes software, firmware, and hardware updates, has been developed to enable Kudu users to keep up with additional productivity demands.

The new release incorporates optimisations of the carriage movement, as well as hardware improvements to the system which help the machine cope with increased speed.

Customers of swissQprint’s Kudu wide-format flatbed printer will get a reported 12% increase in production throughput thanks to the package, which has been released two years after the introduction of the press.

The enhancements have come due to refinements developed for the company’s fifth generation of flatbeds, which were first released in January.

The new Nyala 5 and Impala 5 flatbed printers, along with the previously released Kudu, form the ‘Generation 5’ line-up, which is reportedly 23% faster than the previous generation, delivering a reported top speed of 341sq m/h.

Simon Averell, UK service manager at swissQprint, says: “We have always provided free software upgrades for all our customers across our printer ranges.

"This new development for Kudu users will further improve their ability to turn work around faster combined with the high-quality printing they were already producing. The upgrade package adds up to improved productivity and efficiency. Depending on the age of the machine, there is a sliding scale of updates, however the end game is the same: a 12% boost in speed for all our Kudu customers.”

The 3.2×2m Kudu incorporates up to ten colour channels, including the option of UV-activated ‘neon’ inks. The press is certified to ISO standard 20690, and consumes an average of 2.2kwh of electricity, the same as a standard kettle.

Erskine Stewart, managing director of swissQprint UK, adds: “Service is such an important part of what we do.

“The quality and productivity of our machines goes hand-in-hand with our commitment to all businesses that have invested in our products. Our ongoing support enables all users to grow their market with a reliable partner in swissQprint. The Kudu upgrade is the perfect example of how all customers can benefit from working with us.”

The Swiss manufacturer will exhibit at this year's edition of The Print Show, taking place in Hall 3 of the NEC Birmingham from September 23rd to 25th. Solutions demonstrated at the show will include the Kudu, which is returning to the exhibition for a second time.
