Diversified commercial printer, Dayfold Group, has cited the installation of a HP Latex R2000 as being key to allowing it to expand its service offering and bring its wide-format production in-house.

First established in the 1980s, Dayfold supplies printed products to customers across a range of markets. However, it is relatively new to the wide-format printing sector, having only officially opened a wide-format production space in its warehouse in September.

At the end of 2023, Dayfold managing director Del Simmons led a management buyout of the company. Investment in two HP machines followed shortly after the buyout, first purchasing an HP Indigo 7K digital press, which joined an existing HP Indigo Press 5500. This was then swiftly followed by the HP Latex R2000.

The R2000, which was supplied by HP distributor, Papergraphics, was reportedly chosen by Dayfold due to its sustainable features. HP’s water-based Latex inks are designed to reduce harmful waste, printing with no hazardous air pollutants and able to meet modern environmental certifications.

The adaptability of the R2000 was also highlighted by Dayfold. The machine can operate in both flatbed and roll-to-roll modes, with the flexibility to print on a range of rigid materials such as foamboard, card, Dibond, glass, and acrylic.

Lee Carpenter, client engagement director at Dayfold, explains: “Prior to purchasing, we carried out an assessment of all wide-format printers currently available, weighing up their pros and cons.

“We had two key requirements: excellent sustainability and the capability of producing a market-leading spot white. The HP Latex R2000 excels at both.”

Dayfold operates from two facilities in Dorset and Bath, serving clients across the UK and the Channel Islands

According to Carpenter, while the HP Indigo 7K added extra capacity and flexibility, the R2000 allowed the company to bring its wide-format print work in-house.

Carpenter continues: “Our R2000 works hard. We produce a wide range of work, from conventional point-of-sale (POS) products and in-store signage and graphics for one of our key customers, to supporting elements for our rigid box making division.

“The HP Latex R2000 has expanded our in-house offering as it allows us to build on standard digital and litho, including foiling and rigid box making, to also include wide-format print. This breadth of solutions created in-house provides our existing customers with peace of mind that we can meet all their needs and allows us entry into new markets and sectors.”

The company is now reportedly looking to expand its arsenal of wide-format printers further and is looking towards additional HP Latex solutions.

Carpenter says: “We are relatively new to the wide-format printing sector but already have plans to expand on our investment. Our HP Latex R2000 has already proved to be extremely impressive.”

Dayfold also purchased HP’s B2 sheetfed Indigo 18K at this year’s drupa. The digital press was officially launched at the German trade show in May, along with the HP Indigo 120K and Indigo 7K machines.
