Mimaki’s UJV100-160Plus LED UV printer was used to produce digitally printed imagery for experiential artist, Doddz.
Supported by Hybrid Services, the exclusive UK and Ireland distributor for Mimaki, this printed imagery was combined with immersive augmented reality (AR) environments for Doddz’s private viewing exhibition in Manchester’s Northern Quarter.
The ‘A Different Perspective’ exhibition was designed to offer the opportunity to experience the future of storytelling and provided a rare glimpse into the life and emotions of the artist themselves.
Doddz used a range of floor graphics, wallpaper, and canvas from Soyang Europe’s range of digitally printable substrates, and the print was done using the UJV100-160Plus.
These were then used to create a series of scenes that when viewed through a mobile phone, came to life as AR experiences, as well as an animated film and video game.
In addition, the exhibition featured a full-colour 3D printed piano which came to life with a virtual performance by American rapper Tyler, the Creator. The file for this was created by Doddz in Blender, and then produced by Hybrid Services using the Mimaki 3DUJ-553 full-colour 3D printer.

Hybrid Services supported Doddz with other aspects of the exhibition including the plaques that incorporated the QR codes using the UJF-3042MkIIe flatbed, and the TxF300-75 DTF printer to create T-shirt graphics.
Duncan Jefferies, head of marketing and business development at Hybrid Services, comments: “When Doddz’s team approached us earlier in the year, we realised very quickly what a unique opportunity it was to work with such a talented and visionary artist.
“Pairing cutting edge print and material technology with the wonderful creativity that Doddz incorporates into every piece made it a very special collaboration to be involved with.”
Doddz has gone on to work on additional projects with Hybrid Services and Soyang Europe including a giant mural featured in one of the fanzones at the Euro 2024 football tournament.
“Working with Hybrid and Soyang Europe was the difference between being the success it was and no success at all,” Doddz comments, adding: “The guidance the team give me sharing their experience and expertise is the reason we’re already working on new projects together.”
