The Shop & Display Equipment Association (SDEA) has elected Claire White, UK head of specification for Antalis, as its new president – the first woman to hold the role since the association was founded in 1947.

Claire White was elected president having previously served as the association’s vice president in 2025, and as a council member before that.

White’s appointment was first confirmed at SDEA’s 79th annual general meeting in May. She succeeds Mark Chatterton, managing director of Morplan, who steps down after his term in the role, with James North of Northbanks Design elected as the new vice president.

Speaking about the appointment, White says: “It is a real honour to take on the role of president, and I am proud to be the first woman to do so in the association’s history.

“The SDEA continues to offer valuable and relevant support to the many different sectors it represents within the design and display industry, and it provides members with opportunities to network and celebrate their creativity. I look forward to building on this work and helping the Association grow in the year ahead.”

Newly elected vice president, James North, adds: “It is a real privilege to be elected vice president of the SDEA.

“I look forward to working alongside the board, members, and industry partners to champion innovation, support emerging talent, and help strengthen our industry for the future.”

The SDEA represents UK suppliers and service providers to the retail display and shopfitting sectors, supporting members through industry representation, networking, and the promotion of best practice.

Among its work, the SDEA helps to organise the Creative Retail Awards and Creative Interior Awards, two awards platforms designed to promote some of the most innovative projects from the global retail industry and commercial interiors sector respectively. The Shop & Display Equipment Association (SDEA) has elected Claire White, UK head of specification for Antalis, as its new president – the first woman to hold the role since the association was founded in 1947.
