Scottish graphics production and signage company, KDR Projects, has praised the impact of its recently purchased Vivid VeloBlade Nexus wide-format digital die cutter.

Founded in 2021 and based in Pathhead near Edinburgh, KDR Projects works with customers across applications including wide-format graphics, signage, branded interiors, window graphics, exhibition branding, and display pieces for museums and galleries.

The decision to bolster its services with a Veloblade Nexus came after significant growth in KDR’s output in recent years.

After investing last year in a new VeloBlade from approved distribution partner, Soyang Hardware, KDR Projects has reported reduced costs, cuts in production time, and enhancements to its environmentally friendly offerings.

KDR Projects, director, Kerry De Vos, says: “We were looking for efficiency to go alongside our direct-to-substrate (DTS) offering.

“Since installation, it has been running work such as cut-to-shape stickers, cardboard panels, jigsaw puzzles, outdoor graphics, and various signage solutions. Being able to cut boards and panels with the VeloBlade saves us either having to hand cut them or ordering them in cut to size. As a result, it has allowed us to save both time and money.”

Manufactured by Vivid Laminating Technologies and sold through Soyang Hardware, the machine is part of a new generation of flatbed cutting technologies built for use across printers and production houses of varying sizes.

The cutter features an advanced toolset including drag knife, crease wheel, v-cut knife, oscillating knife, and optional CNC router, with the machine able to work with a wide range of substrates including corrugated board, foam PVC, MDF, acrylic, and dibond.

The VeloBlade has also supported KDR Project’s wider sustainability strategy, which includes all of its print capabilities carrying GREENGUARD environmental certification.

The certification ensures that a product has met rigorous standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air and is acceptable for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities.

De Vos adds: “We can print straight onto materials made from card or paper, then cut them out using the new machine. All this means we can be more efficient and sustainable as a business.”
