Rob Fletcher speaks to Graham Wood, director of All Signs Visual Communications, about how the company has grown and how it intends to continue this expansion with new investment

All Signs point towards success

‘It does exactly what it says on the tin’. Perhaps one of the most successful lines in the advertising world, this phrase is still banded around today, not only just for the brand it refers to—woodstain and wood-dye manufacturer Ronseal—but also as a general saying to describe a product, service, or company.

All Signs Visual Communications is just one example of this in action, with the Bristol-based company adopting a name that describes exactly what it offers.

Founded in 2006 by Graham Wood, the firm has gone from strength to strength in its relatively short life, picking up a number of major projects that has placed it in front of millions of people around the world.

“One of our more recent exciting projects was to wrap a mobile bar for Johnnie Walker to follow all the European Formula One motor-racing events for the 2017 season,” explains Wood, who now serves as director of All Signs.

He adds: “The bar has a 250sq m footprint and stands over 4.5m tall. We had to wrap the entire unit with a wood grain effect, both internally and externally. We printed, laminated, and applied over 500sq m of printed film over a three-day period and also produced halo illuminated signage for the fascia of the bar, as well as all the internal signage and LED light sheets. Images can be seen on social media using the hashtag #johnniegingerf1.”

Customer comes first

This project is one of many that included a wide range of requirements crossing over into various areas of sign-making, but despite the demands of this type of work, Wood says All Signs has created an environment that is pleasant to work in, which in turn helps keep staff morale constantly high.

“Our working environment is generally fun, challenging, and fast-paced,” he says, adding: “We have become used to working efficiently to tight lead times and have built our business around being able to deliver on brief and on time.”

Wood is also keen to highlight the company’s commitment to customer service, explaining that investment in staff helps to maintain a good relationship with its clients.

“We believe that service is the primary benchmark of our success,” Wood says, adding: “We understand that project-based work requires a knowledgeable and dedicated manager to handle the project from start to finish.

“We invest in the right people, a good example of this would be our newest team member Alison Roberts who was key accounts manager for Spandex. Her knowledge of our industry’s product range is second to none, and this gives us and the client peace of mind that we will be able to offer the right product, for the right application, at the right price. Our project managers are all experts in their fields.”

Over the years, All Signs has been able to build up a rather enviable production portfolio that includes machinery from some of the biggest manufacturers in the industry. The company runs a Vutek QS2 Pro hybrid UV printer and two Mimaki JV 33 machines, in addition to a Zund G3 CNC and cutting table, a Trotec laser cutter/engraver, Mimaki plotters, a 5m Rolls Roller flatbed laminator, and a number of Easymount laminators.

All Signs has a partnership in place with Contra Vision, where it serves as a print partner to the company, meaning it can benefit from the many different solutions on offer.





Wood explains: “Contra Vision products transform glass into opportunities for advertising, branding, one-way privacy, solar shading, and decorative architectural features, while retaining excellent see-through from the other side.

Invest to succeed

Having achieved so much in just over a decade, Wood is understandably keen for All Signs to push on and expand further, with plans in place to not only invest in more kit, but also to analyse the market and target new business in some of the more profitable sectors of the industry.

Wood says: “Organic growth has led us to where we are now. We love technology and investing in the right key equipment and people to continue to take the business forward.

“We are all about relationships with our clients and finding the right technology and products to produce perfect brand supporting signage and graphics, without the need to outsource or use third parties.

“We have been looking at a second print machine to keep up with demand and are currently looking at the new range of LED Vutek’s. We have also had a demo on the Swiss Q Print flatbed.”

Given the hesitance by some companies to spend money on new kit and staff, the comments here from Wood are somewhat refreshing. The fact that All Signs has grown so much in little over ten years after investing carefully in the business is no coincidence, and again demonstrates that a carefully-structured strategy can put your company ahead of the competition.
