Fespa Global Print Expo

With FESPA Global Print Expo returning for the first time since 2019, Carys Evans asks: “What trends do you expect to see at this year’s show in Amsterdam?”

The future is green

The visual communication market decreased by over 40% during the last 18 months, though the market now shows signs of recovery. Throughout this period, the pandemic forced our industry to discover new markets, opportunities, and applications. We expect 60-70% of the usual visitor numbers, but all of them with a very dynamic and positive vision towards the future and with a deep interest especially in green and PVC-free offerings.

If it is true that in the world of visual communication we can no longer expect great revolutions, then today, more than ever, what makes the difference are the trends of the moment, supported by producers who work for a sustainable and ethical change like Guandong.

Each part of the stand will therefore be decorated with a variety of graphics, all united by our "S.O.S.TAINABILITY" motto, using recycled, recyclable and reusable materials. To enhance the graphics on the stand, our iconic Guandong ‘bean’ will be reproduced in hologram style and in different shades of colour.

An entire wall will be dedicated to the new and exciting trend of Wall Dressing, with interchangeable graphics made from our TAP, which is an adhesive polyester fabric, magnetic and ferrous materials from our M&F visual communications line and also ReVitaTack, the recyclable polyester obtained from the reuse of PET bottles, present in the classic and Puro  versions with nanodot adhesive technology.

Multitude of applications

Peter Bray,  Managing director, Durst UK & Ireland

Versatility, sustainability, and functionality will be among the key trends on the minds of visitors to FESPA this year. In our experience, print-service-providers require a multitude of applications for their different needs, which will also include software. It’s with this versatility in mind that we developed a full LED ink portfolio, which also provides sustainable print technologies.

Some of the demands and challenges we are seeing from the large-format print sector cover JIT (just in time) orders and deliveries, short-run orders, 24/7 service and the ability to work from everywhere. Expectations are based on our daily life experience with digital offerings. For example, expecting an Amazon order placed late at night to arrive the next day. Shopping experiences mean we have become accustomed to ordering tickets for shows or configuring cars online, thanks to high quality product visualisation.

Multitude of  applications

Our customers are increasingly looking to invest in hybrid solutions instead of having separate roll-to-roll and flat-bed machines. Durst has brought the same high quality, reliability, and productivity to its customers with the award-winning P5 technology platform, which we believe is the Swiss Army knife of printing because it has so many uses. With more than 100 installations across the world since its launch in 2019, including eight in the UK, the P5 has become a very successful production printer.

In the world we now live, customers are also demanding sustainable solutions. Every technical solution we provide is evaluated to ensure the least harm for people and the environment, which is why, for example, solvent and eco-solvent concepts have never been pursued within our graphics businesses. These include large-format printing, textile and packaging sectors.
