Joey Kim, managing director of InkTec, says he has seen many companies over the last ten years drop out due to not being innovative enough

One small step, one giant leap

How did you first find yourself in the industry and how have you seen it change over the years?

Our industry has dramatically changed every year with the development of new printheads, new ink, and new technologies to cope with market demands. I have seen many companies in our industry over the last ten years drop out due to not being innovative enough to keep up with the latest technologies. However, InkTec has successfully kept up with market trends and is at the forefront of alternative ink solutions, as well as a leading company in inkjet applications. InkTec has a good understanding of the market and sales growth has increased every year for the past eight years. The hugely successful launch of JETRIX UV printers in the UK has given our management team a change of focus in recent years and presented them with new challenges to be met.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I like working in this high-tech inkjet industry. Keeping up with market trends is another important part of my role, enabling us to maintain our market leading position. We are one of the few Asian inkjet manufacturers who have a branch office in Europe, to not only bring what we develop from InkTec, but also the best solutions from Asia, to our partners, customers, and friends in Europe, to aid their continuous success for our mutual profitable partnership.

How has the company changed over the past few years?

We have launched JETRIX in the UK, which are UV curable flatbed printers that come in five different sizes, all produced and powered by InkTec. We are possibly the only company in our industry who manufacture not only the ink solution, but also substrates for inkjet printing and our own UV flatbed printer. For the last 22 years, we have understood how ink reacts in printers, so have used this advantage to develop the best combination between ink and printer; this was the one of main reasons we decided to make our own true flatbed printer back in 2008. Based on the information we have from ‘infosource’ (the market data specialists in Switzerland) we can claim to be the fastest growing UV printer manufacturer in Europe. Based on our innovation and continuous success over the past several years, we had an opportunity to invite David Cameron, Prime Minister of UK, and Lim Sungnam, Korean Ambassador, to the opening ceremony of our new demo suite in Witney, Oxfordshire, in February.

What are the most important issues to your customers at the moment and how is InkTec catering to this?

Customer service is based on a trustful partnership. We support our current JETRIX customers with a response within one hour from first service call, remote access service within two hours from the first contact, and a next day engineering visit if the problem can’t be solved by remote access. We, as the branch office of InkTec, have brought over engineers from the factory who are experienced on the production line and have done quality control. These factory engineers are training locally-hired engineers, which gives us more confidence in problem solving and improving our efficiency. Based on this improved, continuous service, we now have a customer who owns five JETRIX UV flatbed printers and is considering another Jetrix purchase in the near future. Based on our success and confidence with the quality of our printers, at Sign and Digital UK 2014 we announced a two-year Jetrix manufacturer’s warranty (including print-heads) without any hidden costs.

In an increasingly competitive market, what is it that you believe sets InkTec apart from its competitors?

Mutual trust based on a close partnerships with customers, as well as our ability to understand trends and choose new items to develop precisely to fulfil market demands. We gain this knowledge through the various exhibitions we attend world-wide.

We also equip various printers to develop ink solutions and quality control. Without sharpening our quality, no customers would trust and wait for us. This is the only way we will keep our leading position as an ink manufacturer in in the inkjet industry.

What is on the horizon for InkTec?

InkTec Corporation was founded in 1992 with the company’s motto, ‘Today’s Technology is never good enough for us’. Since its establishment, InkTec has built a great reputation for the inkjet inks for desktop printers, thanks to its superior quality and through continuous research and development as the company diversified.

With its accumulated experience and technology for inkjet applications, InkTec has finished the development of silver and transparent electronic conductive inks. And of course Nano technology has unlimited potential that can be applied to all industries. Whatever the future holds, InkTec will be always on your side by providing not only printer consumables but also total printing solutions, as a world-class company in inkjet applications.
