Lamar celebrates Pride across its signage

As Pride Month continues throughout June, outdoor advertising company, Lamar Advertising, is celebrating the event through its digital screens.

Lamar says the national digital out-of-home (DOOH) campaign aims to spread messages of love and acceptance to encourage tolerance and respect for all.

The positive messages are being broadcast across 200 digital billboards in 30 different markets throughout its billboard, interstate logo, transit and airport advertising platforms in the US.

Sean Reilly, chief executive officer of Lamar, says: “At Lamar, we believe strongly in diversity, inclusion and working together with respect and tolerance for all.

“In sharing a message of love and acceptance across the country throughout our digital billboard network, we proudly express our support for the LGBTQ+ community in the hopes that we can encourage the millions who see our billboards each and every day to treat everyone with kindness and respect.”

The concept of Gay Pride was first coined by Thom Higgins, a gay rights activist in Minnesota around 1969 and the first Pride march was held in New York by bisexual activist, Brenda Howard.

Nicknamed the “Mother of Pride”, Howard also came up with the idea for a week of events around Pride Day which is where the concept of Pride month came from.

Other OOH companies have been celebrating Pride through their own digital signage platforms. Earlier this month Sign Link reported that Clear Channel Europe has launched its #IAmProud campaign which encourages the public to think of what makes them proud.

Messages of hope, connection and pride have been broadcast across seven European countries for the month of June.
