Peaky Blinders campaign celebrates the fans

To celebrate the new series of Peaky Blinders and its move to BBC One, the broadcaster has looked to fans of the show to create pieces of art that will feature in an out-of-home (OOH) campaign.

More than 1,000 submissions were entered into the competition, which asked fans of the show to submit a one-of-a-kind static poster artwork inspired by characters in Peaky Blinders.

Each of the 16 fan artists will receive £1,000 commission for their contribution to the campaign, which is set to feature across BBC digital, online, social platforms and in a nationwide OOH campaign to promote the series.

“A show only reaches cult status because of its fans, and the passion of the Peaky Blinders fans is absolutely unrivalled,” says Emma Brooke, creative at BBC Creative. “We knew this was true when we discovered the thousands of pieces of art that were being created by them around the globe.

"This is all about celebrating and giving recognition to the Peaky Blinder's fans and putting their incredible art out into the world."

We wanted to harness the power of its existing fandom to help bring new viewers into the fold, knowing their passion for the show is truly infectious

Peaky Blinders is a Bafta award-winning drama series which follows the fictional Shelby crime family in the aftermath of World War I, starring Cillian Murphy as Tommy Shelby.

Chris Hooper, head of marketing at BBC One & iPlayer, adds: “Peaky Blinders is moving to BBC One and is about to be exposed to a whole new audience.

“We wanted to harness the power of its existing fandom to help bring new viewers into the fold, knowing their passion for the show is truly infectious. The range of submissions has been incredibly diverse, but each has reflected the emotional depth and complexity of the series in its own way; the quality has been truly impressive.”
