The project meant working at key venues, fan sites, town centres, and transport links

Based in Birmingham, Hollywood Monster was chosen by CSM Live as the principle local supplier for the games following CSM’s successful bid to provide signage for the games.

The massive project meant Hollywood Monster worked around the clock seven days a week to provide the colourful signage that decorated the Commonwealth Games and the wider Birmingham city.

Birmingham’s city centre was filled with banners, hoarding boards, and giant wraps, putting Hollywood Monster on the top of the medals podium as it supplied thousands of metres of printed media.

CSM Live was chosen as the official provider of look, wayfinding, and signage for the Games after successfully organising dressings for the likes of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the Arafura Games 2019, and the Rugby World Cup.

Project director for CSM, Giles Stanford, says: “We were delighted to work with Hollywood Monster, they have supplied materials for all our operations across the city and Games’ Venues. It is very important for us to be procuring local resources and skills providing a boost to the local economy. It has been great to have such capability right in the middle of Birmingham. Thank you very much to all the team at HM”.

A total of 500 hours of print time were dedicated to this huge project which saw Hollywood Monster begin work in early April for key installations across the Midlands before work ramped up in June and July.

Big tasks for the work included wrapping for Copthorne Hotel, creating hoarding for walkways, bridges, fan parks, and of course decorating Alexander Stadium.

The Games ended on August 8th with a closing ceremony which handed the baton to Victoria 2026

Chief executive office of Hollywood Monster, Simon McKenzie, says: “Some print projects were 30m by 20m whilst others were 1000m by 1m and everything in between. As a company we demonstrated that we had the capability of delivering installations in every shape and size. Such a wide spread of work some requiring extensive finishing that only comes with experience.”

Having formed in 2009 after the merging of two sister companies Hollywood Monster has held over 30 years’ combined experience in graphics and signage. The company has invested heavily in print technology over the pandemic to maximise large-scale opportunities such as these.

The project brought a lot of pride to the company, especially Chairman of Hollywood Monster, Tim Andrews MBE, who started the company from his parents’ loft in 1991.

Andrews says: “Our fantastic city has put on a fantastic event, and we can rightfully beam with pride around the world.”
