Epson has launched its new SureColor SC-F2100 direct-to-garment printer in an effort to help print service providers (PSPs) expand their services into this key growth market.

Epson say the new SureColor SC-F2100 is “faster, higher quality and more versatile” than its predecessor

The manufacturer bills the SC-F2100 as a “complete Epson solution”, including printer, printhead, ink, software and warranty, allowing users to begin work almost immediately.

Phil McMullin, sales manager at Epson UK, comments: “Our first direct-to-garment printer was a great success, so following it up was always going to be a challenge.

“With the SC-F2100, however, we’ve managed to improve in every area—it’s faster, higher quality and more versatile, with software that makes it easy for you to create your own unique designs. And all of that is backed up with quicker, easier maintenance and a lower targeted TCO.”

PSPs that opt to invest in the new printer will also benefit from Epson’s Garment Creator utility, free-of-charge. The software allows users to add text and multiple images, create presets for image adjustment, and provide a hot folder and CMYK image support.

The SC-F2100 is able to print on fabric up to 25mm, while users can benefit from white ink mode, colour ink mode or dual colour, depending on set-up. CMYKW five-colour UltraChrome DG inks is supplied to users in 600ml cartridges.

Other key features include an auto-maintenance mode with a separate cleaning cartridge, which Epson says will substantially reduce scheduled maintenance, as well as a dust catcher to prevent fluff and dust on the printhead, thus reducing risk of damage to the final print.

In addition, users can opt to add a fabric platen grip pad and platen grip tool to make garment placement easier.

Direct-to-garment print has been regarded as a key growth market for some time now. With t-shirt printers, online t-shirt retailers, high and low-volume print companies among the many types of businesses active in this sector, competition is high and investment in new machinery to ensure you can offer a better service than competitors is more important than ever.

Epson has said the SC-F2100 can also be used to produce branded workwear or promotional items—both of which are sought-after services in this sector. And with mention of this, more customers are now seeking personalised and bespoke items, and the new Epson printer is able to produce these garment products.

Epson plans to make the SureColor SC-F2100 available for purchase from March.
