Global pays tribute to HRH Prince Philip

Media and entertainment group, Global, has updated its digital signage screens across London in memory of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, who has died at the age of 99.

The Royal Family says it will join with people around the world in mourning Prince Philip’s loss.

Prince Philip died peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle, The Royal Family has announced.

Born in Greece on June 10, 1921, Philip joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, at the age of 18. After serving in the Second World War, The Duke of Edinburgh married HRH Queen Elizabeth ll in 1947, leaving active military service when she became queen in 1952.

At the age of 96, Philip retired from his royal duties in 2017, making him the longest-serving consort of a reigning British monarch and the longest-lived male member of the British royal family.

His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss

A statement on the official Royal Family website reads: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Global has broadcast a tribute to the Prince on its digital screens which features an image of him in his military uniform, with the words: “HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh 1921-2021”.
