African summit: the guys climbed the highest mountain on the continent in memory of Nadine

Michael Parker and Kenny Parkes, who raised more than £13,000 for charity by undertaking the gruelling challenge, were given aflag by Hampshire Flag Company to fly in memory of Nadine Blake, who died last year aged 18.

Hampshire Flag fulfilled the request to produce the flag and the names of the various companies which had sponsored their trek.

The money is being raised for Southampton General Hospital's cystic fibrosis unit and will be used to provide equipment and to build a garden for the patients.

Michael Parker, 31 from Havant, Hampshire says: "I can't thank Graham and his team enough for their help, support, generosity and time. The flag they produced is perfect and we were extremely proud to fly it at the top of Kilimanjaro in Nadine's honour.

"The trek was such a challenge, both physically and mentally, but also such an achievement. We've been blown away by everyone's generosity and by how much money's been raised for the cystic fibrosis unit," adds Michael.

Graham Wilkinson, Hampshire Flag’s Managing Director said the minute Michael's request came through he knew he would to say 'yes'.

"Climbing Kilimanjaro is no mean feat and I have the utmost respect for what Michael and Kenny have accomplished - both in scaling the mountain and in the amount they've raised for the unit at Southampton hospital," adds Graham.

Kilimanjaro is actually three volcanic cones: Kibo, the highest at 5,895 m (19,341 ft); Mawenzi at 5,149 m (16,893 ft); and Shira, the shortest at 3,962 m (13,000 ft). It sits on the border between Tanzania and Kenya and is snow covered at its summit and even includes Africa's only glacier.
