FESPA UK has developed a series of initiatives to support young people in the industry

FESPA UK has announced it will be holding a networking event dedicated to supporting the next generation in the graphics and signage industry.

The first Next Generation training day took place at ADAPT Amari Digital Printing Technologies where a group of workers from the industry got to network and learn about various vinyl application techniques.

Following the Next Generation training days in January, FESPA UK will be holding a Networking Day on March 15th, 2023, at the British Car Museum in Warwick.

Supported by the likes of Compass Business Finance, HP, All Print Supplies, and Vivid Laminating Technologies, the day will give attendees the chance to learn and interact with a variety of businesses.

Lewis Evans, product and sales manager at Vivid, comments: "We are committed to nurturing up-and-coming talent in the print industry and recognise that our next generation of printers need to be heard and shout about their talents, alongside other like-minded individuals within the print sector.”

Evans adds: “The Next Generation Networking Day is the perfect opportunity for Vivid to support the next generation of future leaders and be part of an event purely focused on young people in print."

Louise Hart, sales director at All Print Supplies, adds: “To be asked to share our knowledge and experience of roll materials over a variety of applications and sectors is a great honour, and we are very much looking forward to meeting the industry professionals of tomorrow.

When the people at the top retire, will the next generation see the value of sharing information to develop their own careers and to help grow and support the industry as a community?

“If you are just starting out or if you have been in the industry a while, we are on hand every step of the way and will offer our full support.”

The idea for the Next Generation events came after FESPA UK felt that industry events were too focused on advanced members of the print and signage industry.

FESPA UK says: “When the people at the top retire, will the next generation see the value of sharing information to develop their own careers and to help grow and support the industry as a community?”

The networking day will be open for people aged 18 to 30 and will have special speakers like The Online Print Coach, Colin Sinclair McDermott, as well as Apprentice winner, and award-winning digital marketing specialist Mark Wright.

FESPA UK says it is keen to break down the stereotype of networking being “stuffy” and a chance for ‘people in suits to brag about how great they are’.

To combat this the association will be forming a Next Generation Committee of 18 to 30-year-olds to fairly represent young people in the industry and make sure their ideas are heard. The group will be led by Jay Burfield, FESPA UK’s creative coordinator.
