Using colourful signage and installing outdoor gym equipment, the campaign sought to use movement and motivational quotes to improve the wellbeing of locals.

ASICS’ State-of-Mind Index researched the mood of the nation and found Nottinghamshire to be the county in the most need of uplifting.

Bus stops were turned into ‘bus steps’, benches into ‘bench presses’, and lamp posts into ‘goal posts’ and residents were encouraged to use the ASICS Mind Uplifter to record their mental state before and after exercise.

Residents were found to experience a mood uplift of 27% and the town’s overall score increased from 56 to 71 out of 100.

To accompany the sports installations, colourful built-up letters spelling out ‘Upliftford’ were installed in the town as motivation.

Gary Raucher, executive vice president of ASICS, says: “The results in Retford really demonstrate the power of movement.”
